I Kant! (pun intended! Tee hee!)

If we have respect for reason then we must obey it. Moral law is unconditional, absolute, universal. We have no choice but to obey. You do the right thing because reason dictates it. This is the categorical imperative: to act morally because it is reasonable/rational to do so.

I can't explain it but Immanuel Kant did.

Act only on that maxim whereby you can at the same time will that it should become a universal law, valid for all rational beings at all times.

Meaning that, when considering a moral choice, you should take the action that you could generalize as the right thing to do, for all people, for all times.
