I didn't see the mag, but have a suggestion. It does not however involve the entire drawer, and would mean turning the drawer over to become the shelf on its bottom side.

If you have no "carpenter" actually standing by, and have the skills, I suggest this.

Imagine that my suggestion will hide the brackets for the shelf.

Line the BOX of it all around, squarely, as to allow that when you cut on that line, you'll end up with a more shallow BOX perhaps 2 inches deep.

On the BACK long side make two cuts perpendicular to the line of the length allowing (at your choice of brackets) two areas where the brackets will enter and the shelf then will sit level.

Install even the slotted strip type, multiple bracket hardware, and two brackets (that's only one example). Finish the shelf/OR not, flip it bottom up, set it on the brackets and they will be hidden and you will have another horizontal flat space to place your accumulations on.

its pretty easy.......just turn the dresser drawer with the drawers in a vertical position & hang them up in the wall, but before fixing the dresser to the wall please ask the carpenter to get rid of the drawers for you, so that it leaves gaps where now you can stock things.
