The French held the world record for many years with their TGV lines, which radiate from Paris. These fast trains maintain an average speed of 157 miles per hour.
The Japanese Shinkansen line, however, really moves. With a top speed of 186 miles per hour, the Shinkansen Bullet Train averages 162 miles an hour between Hiroshima and Kokura stations.
Although the Japanese train is the fastest in the world at ordinary cruises, it does not hold the record speed for wheeled trains. The record belongs to France's TGV (Train Grande Vitesse): 515 kph. However, the TGV ordinary runs at 300 km/h. According to Yasuhara, they don't plan to challenge that record.
The fastest train in the world is the magnetically levitated train, which is also built by a Japanese firm, Central Japan Railway Co. Its test train, JR-Maglev MLX01, has reached 581 kph in December 2003 in Yamanashi west of Tokyo. However, there currently exists only one Maglev line in the entire world, in China between Shanghai's airport and financial district. The line has only 30 km, but the train goes at 430 km/h, i.e. it reaches destination in less than 5 minutes. Such a train would go from the East Cost of the US to the West Cost in around 11 hours.

The Tokaido Shinkansen, connecting Tokyo, Nagoya, Kyoto and Osaka, was inaugurated in the year 1964 as the first shinkansen line and the world's first high speed train. In 1964 the trains already run with speeds of about 200 km/h. Nowadays they reach speeds of over 300 km/h.
The extension of the Tokaido Shinkansen, the Sanyo Shinkansen to Hakata Station in Fukuoka was completed by 1975.

Many, a lot of human beings have self assurance that maglev trains are the quickest in the international, whether it is now no longer real. The French TGV practice or "practice a grande vitesse" has broken the all-time checklist. it is an electric powered practice, getting ability from overheard wires. So, the quickest trains do no longer run on gas, they run on electrical energy. You wont stumble on a gas practice attaining better than 100mph using fact it fairly is only too heavy. Plus their propper names are diesel trains. wish that helped. =)

The Bullet train in Japan, a.k.a. Maglev train. it is run by Shinkansen Line ( "We get you there with time to spare") and connect the major cities of Japan. ( Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto, Hiroshima, Nagoya.) It runs on a magnetic track and since it floats, it can accelerate to at least 310 m.p.h. and has an incredible safety record with not one fatality. I have ridden on that train before and it is INCREDIBLE!!!
