I think it was Heraclitus who once said (I'm paraphrasing here), that the only thing in life that is constant is change itself.

If your principles (or convictions) remain constant within a changing environment, they no longer reflect the conditions under which they were founded.

If all of your convictions remain unchanged, it would seem to me that you are not evolving as a character... you are not questioning and revisiting the principles upon which your personal ideology is premised.

So... if you suffer a fall of conviction, I would consider it evidence that you are evolving as a person... that is, you are revisiting your convictions, and you have discovered that one or more of them no longer functions as neatly and effectively within your environment as it once did.

I think it's fair to say there's beauty in that process.... just as you might say, conversely, that there's stupidity in rigidly holding onto convictions that are no longer relevant to you as a person.

I'm not sure. My guess would be that perhaps if we believe something wrongly, if we are mistaken and closed-minded about something, but then we realize the truth, that there is a beauty to letting go of your illusions & recognizing the truth. Your mind opens & you see clearly. Some people adamantly believe things that are wrong. They are too blind to see the truth. It would be a wonderful thing if somehow they could be made aware.

I can't imagine what else it would mean. I think that losing your conviction or your faith would be sad not beautiful unless it were wrong.

The beauty that exists is the happening of further self-awareness and humbleness, which comes in the awakening of true conviction.

I think it's talking about how beautiful it is to look at a person who has got a conviction. That energy, the enthusiasm.
