I am running Windows XP and my Outlook keeps giving me a message that it is "Synchronizing Folders" even though I am not on a network; I use a standalone PC. Why does this keep happening and how can I stop it? It does slow down the PC while this is taking place. Please, only qualified answers. Thanks.

Please remember that I am running Windows XP and I am completely in a standalone mode, no netword servers involved.

Most Outlook users have a OST file on their hard drive with local outlook setting and configuration info. The server syncronizes with this file keeping it upto date. This is called cached exchange mode and is menat to reduce the amount of time your Outlook has to communicate with the email server.

In some cases the OST file can become corrupt. I have seen this happen many times and casuses all sorts of Outlook issues.

The fix is simple. Close Outlook and rename the OST. When Outlook reopens it will recreate the file and reload your email You will not loose any settings.

Try this:
Control Panel, File & Folder Options. Choose the "Offline Files" tab, and clear the "Enable Offline Files" checkbox.
