Failure only occurs after you stop trying. Perserverence is a great trait to have. It means you keep on trying until you get there.
An example, I have tried 4 times to learn how to program a computer. I first tried in 1972, so it has been 30+ years since my first attempt.
I just got an A in my Java mid term,
I never gave up, therefore I was never a failure

Defeat is just a temporary condition on the road to success. The only true failure is in not trying or in giving up too soon. Too many people are afraid to fail and they let fear paralyze them from taking risks, going after their dreams. Others may attempt, but give up when the going gets tough. If you persist long enough, you will succeed!
There you go, in five sentences!

Because you never even tried, you have failed first. When you try, you put yourself on the line, you take a risk. You do hopefully your best and if you fail, at least you went down in flames.
Now on the other hand, if you just give up and that's the end of it. You don't even try to contribute effort. Basically without any effort, you accept failure.
Be a winner and take failure. You can be perfect all the time. Always try. Hard work and commitment will make all the difference ~John Wooden

Failure is education of the highest degree.
Mistakes our doing the same failure twice.
Failure only exist if you never learn from it...it is called failure to learn.
For I have failed and moved on from my chosen path only to find how to travel my true path.
Every success followed a failure, but not all failures are followed by success.

Yesterday I tried to eat 100 Big Macs, I failed half way through the number 22. Then i felt really sick and had to go to a hospital
My friend on the other hand did not try to eat 100 Big Macs. He feels just fine.
Who's failure is worse?
The moral is that sometimes it is FAR better not to try certain things, then try and fail.

Why is this difficult to understand? If you don't try, you have doomed yourself to defeat. If you try and win, you win. If you try and lose, you have gained an opportunity to learn.
