As a child, I was never physically punished, but as a pre-teen and young teenager, I received many smacks from my mother
for misbehaving. Somehow I managed to grow into an adult feeling loved by my parents and was not traumatized in any way by my mother`s type of discipline.I am a productive adult. who has never been in any sort of legal trouble and can laugh about the smacks my mom planted firmly across my cheeks. Perhaps this is what today's society is lacking in dealing with their kids. Beatings, no, but maybe a little wake-up call from mom or dad via a hand would teach today`s kids to have some respect for selves, others, property and authority.

physically punishing a child just teaches a child not to do it. or at least not to get caught doing it. Sit down with the child and EXPLAIN why they shouldnt do what they did. My best advice i was given was after a child has done something. Send them into their room and sit and calm down for 5 minutes then go in and talk to them before you decide on a punishment. Or if they are older send them to their room till their father gets home then decide on a punishment together. Makes the child sit there and think longer about what they did.
One more thing. Spanking a child or hitting a child with an object only makes you feel better because you get your anger out. Later in life they may resolve to fighting to cure problems they have vs talking them out.

It was normal 50 years ago in the US, its still normal in most countries. If the child is not physically hurt long term, which should be totally out of question, the current laws and society will restrict physical abuse, if caught. I put my own kids in time out for one to three minutes. If Kids do not learn, that there are limits, it will back fire later big time. Bringing up kids responsibly is a very nerve racking thing and people should keep out of that business, until they are old enough to understand, the ramifications (most people never get to that age). Kids love to trigger emotional response and hitting is most likely the most idiotic one you can have.

Good grief, no. I have two sisters & several friends who never used physical force on their children & their children are polite & thoughtful of others & all of them did very well in school. None were rebellious & they all respected others. They are all self-confident & loving people as well because they were treated that way.

Their parents treated them with respect - even as children. They were never yelled at but they had "time outs." One of my sisters would take her son into a room with a door & have a little talk with him.

Corporal punishment teaches a child violence as well as giving them a negative perspective of the world. It teaches them distrust & makes them feel as though they are nothing.

Punishing your child physically is only a quick way to solve a problem. Never with a belt or a switch. That actually according to the law is child abuse.

No no the your questions
You should teach a child by example, if you are violent to a child and you would be by hitting them, than they will think violent is good and take up the practise of hitting and/or holding their angry in and that causes all sorts of problems
Talk to your child tell him/her why they should not do something, remember they are learning and you are the teacher

I actually have 3 little ones with disabilities. there is not any way i'd enable a company to torture my little ones. There are different procedures. the school and the dad and mom are the particularly handicapped thus. between the instructors and the dad and mom, little ones with disabilities may be helped and taught to act properly.

No, physical abuse just makes the child afraid of you, you want the child to respect you and your decisions regarding his/her behavior. Try talking/discussing the problem with the child and if they respect you they will probably listen to you and trust that you, the parent, knows best.

depends on which country you're living, in most asian countries canning a child is acceptable & within the law, but not in most european & american country where physical disclipline is frowned upon & illegal

Ahhh the cause and effect method..
(cause a problem and you will effectivley feel it)....
I remember those days well...one hit and respect throughout was among us.
But alas those days are gone for fear of making children think they are abused for their misdeeds.

It's the time of feeeeeeeelings....respect is gone.
