Calvin Johnson is a great wide out with out a doubt. However this draft is deep in quality WRs. They could easily get a player like Steve Smith (USC) or Craig Davis (LSU) in the second round both of which will make an impact.
However there are only two potentially great QBs in this year's draft JaMarcus Russell (LSU) and Brady Quinn (Notre Dame) both of whom will be drafted in the top 10 picks.
If the Raiders were to draft a skill position player like Calvin Johnson in the first round, they would have to settle for a QB like Drew Stanton (Michigan State), John Beck (BYU), or Troy Smith (OSU) which is a much bigger drop in talent.
To Review
Option 1:
1st round: QB (Russell)
2nd round: Quality WR
Option 2:
1st round: WR (Johnson)
2nd or 3rd round: Mediocre QB which is what they have now

The raiders should definitely pick Calvin Johnson .He's by far the best player in the draft.Instead of drafting for need they should draft for best player avaliable.Forget about 2007. Moss won't be there in 2008.He's going to make 12 millon dollars. There's no one as good as CJ in next years draft. So then there stuck again.J.Russell is good but not a Franchise guy. They should pick best player in the draft.CJ is by far.And get a QB in later rounds or threw free Agency.

they should and will. trading down is an option, but youve got to realize if youre the raiders you won't be able to turn this team around in one year. getting one or two more draft picks aren't going be worth the price of passing up russell. they need a qb first and foremost and start building around him. there's no good qb out there in the free agency and they won't get a stud like jamarcus anywhere else. the scouts were all amazed by this guy at LSU's pro day today, saying he's the best qb prospect to come out in a long time, with the best arm anyone's seen possibly ever. and he ran and moved quicker than people expected, at 9 pounds lighter than the combine (6'5 1/2, 256 lbs). CJ is an awesome player, but they have receivers to work with, even if moss leaves. they desperately need a qb.

NO WAY THEY SHOULD NOT!!! The raiders are right now struggling and there is definetely no single player that can satisfy all their needs. They MUST trade the pick. Russel is a good QB but he is much less than what the Raiders need. They need players at every positions and drafting would be a stupid decision. If they don't trade out of the first pick, they would be very stupid.

First they should trade away Randy Moss for more picks. Give up the First overall pick of the draft for more picks. With those picks, try to acquire Matt Schaub from the Falcons. They will have so many draft picks in their bag, they can pretty much stock up on talent instead of wasting it away on 1 person.

well CJ is the best player in the draft overall. the best WR proespect since i dont even remember when. i think moss is staying in oakland. and the raiders havent had a decent QB since gannon. so i do think russell will go #1 to oakland. he has great upside too, he can throw the ball 85+ yrds easily which is what al davis loves to do.

The Raiders should find someone willing to trade up and gather more picks. They have too many holes to solve it by one QB pick. If they can't trade down, take Russell. A QB is always more important than a WR.

YES, THEY SHOULD DRAFT JOHNSON. Quarterbacks are such a crapshoot. If you check out NFL drafts gone by (nfl.com, wikipedia) you'll see that it's basically a 50/50 shot that qb's drafted that high turn into anything at all. Johnson is a much surer bet. Either way they'll suck next year. They can roll the dice on next year's hotshot qb prospect.
