I'm not sure whether they still exist or not or if some people are pretending to be them but iv found some stuff on the net like pass worded websites for the Illuminati , but there are so many signs around us to show they did or still do exist. Just keep your eyes open for them.

But there are other 'secret' organizations that world leaders are part of, like the 'skull and bones society'. George Bush. Sr. is a part of it. But this also leads to facts like, these society's cant be that secret if we know about them. You are actually asking two questions in one. Who were the Illuminati, you have aleady answered. At one time the main leaders of the world especially the pope called themselves this and that is where the word originated. Now people think of the Illuminati as being people who bring light to the world. that is what the orginal members thought of themselves as being. Who would you say are the Illuminati today? People like Angelina Jolie and Oprah Winfrey could be included, so could Bill and Melinda Gates. I would have thought Gorbachev would have qualified, and Ghandi. I suppose a great many people have brought light to the world, who aren't even famous. Maybe you bring light to the world, and you can feel a kinship with other people who do. That is the best part of people who carry the flame...it just keeps on burning when they pass it on.

Chances are they were quoting the book "Angels and Demons" by Dan Brown. The book was one of my favorites, but it was just a work of fiction, and even in the end, it was the work of one man, not a group of leaders hidden behind a secret society. Honestly you don't hear much about Illuminati b/c they were a secret society from the dark ages. But back then, just to be smart and have off the wall thoeries, like the world was round and not the center of the universe, you had to join a group like that to share your idea, otherwise if heard by anyone in power you could be jailed (Galalao) or killed.
