People who say it's completely conditioning just want to sound cool. Of course that conditioning exists, but it's not like many many years ago, early humans just decided, "All right, since we are going to pick one gender to condition to be more emotionally vulnerable, we might as well randomly pick women". There is some sort of psychological difference, whether slight or great, that causes women to be more emotional. It's emphasized by conditioning and it doesn't apply to every individual, but the fact remains that men are wired more toward logic and women are wired more toward social networking; therefore, outward displays of emotion make more sense for women. There are studies that show, generally speaking, that baby boys when they want to get out of a playpen are more likely to first try and get themselves out of it, while baby girls are more likely to sit down and start crying for help.
As for a reason for the difference? The most I can make of it is that if the genders possess different strengths, we'll be attracted to what we lack when we see it in each other. Generally speaking, of course.

There is no proof that women cry more than men. We equally feel anguish or pain over losses, such as deaths or separations of some sort. I've seen men cry as much as women, it's just sometimes not done in public because it is falsely judged as being considered weak of a male to do so. The concept is wrong. We hurt for basically the same reasons. Crying is a healthy way to vent the frustrations and grief we all feel.

There's no scientific reason. It's social conditioning. Women are supposed to be weak and vulnerable, men are supposed to be strong and emotionless except of course for anger, therefore it's unacceptable for men to cry in public because it shows vulnerability. It's usually more acceptable to shed a few tears for some one you were close to at a funeral but after years of conditioning most men can't.

Probably not. I think it may just be a matter of social "conditioning"- that it's more acceptable for girls to cry in public- than it is for boys. And that's too bad to, because crying is a good "vent" for pent up emotions..& alot of guys are uncomfortable using it...

I'd love to be able to cry more in public but society tells me I'm not a "man" if I cry in public. I think thats your scientific reason... because our "macho" society says it ain't cool. But anywayz I think it would be cool if more guys show their feminine side.

I wish there was a cure for it. But just as we have physiological differences, we also have some basic personality and/or emotional differences.
