Use Ac Power whenever possible. Very occasionally, use the battery let it run down and then recharge it. Laptop batteries are not as resilient as mobile phone batteries and wear out much quicker and are much more expensive.

Just use it. Yes you can keep the power plug in all the time. (this is how you keep the battery charged) Just make sure you don't sit the laptop on any cloth or anything that could block the ports underneath the laptop... this can cause it to overheat.

best way to keep the batter life is to reduce the brightness of your screen if possible. usually a function key will do this. also check the power settings on battery in windows. right click anywhere on desktop, click properties, goto screensaver tab, click power, and change/check the schemes to lower the usage. keep a minimal amount of programs in the startup (start, run, msconfig, startup tab).

if the battery is older there are usually utilities to refresh them. check with manufacturer of laptop or battery to find utility.

disconnect the charger whenever not using it for an hour or more..... With regular and constant use, they can start to build heat after a while, and this could turn into a potential fire risk, if your'e called away from home for 2 or 3 day's or so...
