Yes! I have seen the brown shirt and black pants/skirt combo worn many times and it looks very classy. I would however recommend this as a winter/fall outfit as it would look out of place during spring or summer. I cannot picture the black top with a brown bottom, that might look a little off.

Oh yeah, a brown full-length coat over black slacks looks quite smashing!

Why not? I think the black should go on bottoms like a black skirt, and the brown on top. Depending on the skirt style you can wear a shirt with a pencil skirt or any tight top with any other type of skirt.
The secret to "success" are accessories. Earrings, or any long necklace gold color would be great on brown.

Brown and black , in my opinion can look very classy and VERY sexy as well, especially on a neutral skin-tone. From light camel to chocolate brown I've seen them all come off in a very becoming way. Things to definitely avoid: brown shoes (unless they're brown &black) w/black pants, brown belt w/black pants, and any color sock besides black(including brown) with black pants. Otherwise, get to work, I'm sure you'll find a combo you love!

You can wear them together but remember that they should offset one another. For example, I have a brown suede skirt that i wear with a striped short sleeve sweater. This sweater has bold brown and white stripes with a few black ones thrown in.Then i wear my black knee high boots with it. An outfit like this works great together .Both colors in solids are just to much.

Black and Light Brown/Caramel look good together, but Black and a Chocolatey Brown dont look that good.

Yes, they absolutely can... for example, it's all the rage here to wear two tank tops over one another, with one slightly larger then the other. A black tank-top under a brown one looks cute... seen it many times.

hey love, i know this a life long question... it can be done if the right shade of brown is the key.. camel brown colour is great with black however the dark shades will clash badly...if you are talking about this darker shade.. i suggest throw on another colour such as yellow to surpuce it up a bit...

Yes, it is perfectly acceptable. Black is considered the ultimate neutral. And it's also acceptable to mix silver tone and gold tone jewelery now...and even to wear white after Labor Day! Gasp!!

ya, it's a nice idea. but sometimes it makes a statement. try a very soft brown over black... I were brown with black and it's not bad!!
Hope this helps!
