That's my given name, and I've been 'Christian' to everyone all my life; my mother insisted on it, as did I as soon as I was old enough to.
Except for a job at a Taco Bell, where it wasn't worth explaining to everyone who had already decided I was 'Chris'.
I know a guy whose given name is Robert Christian, and he goes by Chris. Everyone else I can think of with the name (and I'm old enough that it's really rare in my age group) goes by Christian.

Reguardless of the name, people are lazy and always shorten everything, its unavoidable. The only way I think that wouldnt happen is that you and your son insist on everyone calling him christian. If one person calls him Chris, there will be many to follow.
I personally have always liked the name Christian. When people shorten it it makes it sound more common and not as appealing.

Everyone I know named Christian goes by that.
But everyone I know named Christopher, goes by Chris.
If you name your son Christian make sure everyone calls him just that and if someone calls him Chris remind them that his name is CHRISTIAN. Start that from the very beginning and you shouldn't have a problem

If you want to name him Christian then go for it. If someone calls him Chris, you can politely correct him and say it's Christian. He be used to being called Christian and he will correct people as he gets older. If he wants to be called Chris when he gets older, I'm sure he can make that decision.

I know 2 Christians, and they are both called Christian. I think as long as you call him Christian when he's young, no one will shorten it to Chris.
By the way I LOVE the name..it's very cute

It depends. I know both. The Christian that I know who prefers Christian was called that by his parents all the time and would correct his friends and teachers who tried to call him Chris. On the other hand, the Chris that I know was called that by his parents all the time and would correct the teacher and his friends who tried to call him Christian.
