'Abbreviation' comes from the Latin 'brevis' which means 'short' .
'Acronym' comes from the Greek 'akro', which means 'end/edge' of something, and 'onoma', which means 'name'. So 'acronym' means a word that is made of the end parts of other words.

Im a registered nurse, i might be able to help, but im not sure i understand your question. you might wanna try a drug guide, possibly on online, that should be able to help you. eg. Lippincott's Drug Guide, should be available free over the web. It helped me when i was in school.
