I believe circumstances influence men, but they do not rule them. There are too many people who grow up in the same circumstances (e.g. my father and my uncle) who turn out completely differently because of the choices the men make. But the circumstances do make it easier or more difficult to make those choices.

i agree with your sentence. men have to act according to circumstances. and circumstances are never controlled by man. like the wars. you can start a war but you can't stop it. when there is a war, you have no choice but to send your army to fight. and you never know the outcome, that's why circumstances rule man. because man cannot rule circumstances, we cannot say very confidently what will happen the next minute and we cannot make sure that everything will go according to the plan. we can never make things happen successfully without any mistakes, we can only go according to the circumstances and try to make things go right, therefore, i agree with the statement. we cannot rule circumstances and circumstances rule us-because it affects what we do. :)
