No this is not stupidity. This what investors refer as diversify.
In place of investing all of your money on one product but spread it around a little. All of your big car companies do it and their affiliates. Let me give you some examples.
Ford sells the Ranger and markets the same truck under Mazda. Chevy and Toyota sell the Toyota Corolla and market it as Chevy Prism. Some car companies borrow car bodies from their luxury lines. For example, the Infinity G35 body was borrowed for Nissan's 350 Z car at a less expensive price and little less luxury and more performance.
Some car companies even sell the same car in other countries under different names. For example, the Holden Monaro was sold in the US as the Pontiac GTO.
The lists could just keep going.

My favorite GM lacks of thought in marketing (as a parts guy these drive me nuts)
1. Sierra (GMC Truck) or Ciera (Oldsmobile)?
2. Cutlass (is that a Ciera, Salon, or Supreme, and is the Supreme front or rear wheel drive?)
3. Pick-ups: C/K Series? or R/V? New truck gets old designation, old truck gets new designation, built them both for a few years.
Yes, they're quite stupid. Only GM would stuff a Cavalier with leather & call it a Cadillac.

I dont know if stupid is the way to describe something you dont understand. There is a huge distinction between the two if you are in the market to buy one. Have you ever been in one of each or even set two side by side? The interior is different, and the body style is completely different. The engine, drivetrain and chasis are about the only thing that are alike. Its no different that Honda and Acura, or when Chrysler and Mitsubishi made the Talon and Eclipse. Brand loyalty sold the cars for each, the same as GM and Chevrolet sells to their market.

Obviously you don't have a clue what your are talking about. The differences are many between Chevy and GMC nowithstanding the owner benifits you get with gmc purchase.
Whay does Honda bend the top of their H closed and call it an Accura?
Why does Toyota slap a big L for loser on the front of a 4runner and call it a Lexis?

From a basically monetary aspect of view, that's not a foul idea to purchase a GM automobile. financial ruin does no longer recommend that GM will quit to exist. depending of what has befell with Chrysler, GM will live on a financial ruin basically superb. enable's say that, and that's amazingly not likely, GM does fail (the authorities received't enable that ensue). Obama has suggested that the authorities will honor all GM warranties. Plus, with unfavourable sales, you receives a sturdy decision and tremendous deals. no longer in undemanding words will you get the deals from GM, yet also get deals from the man dealerships too. Now for high quality: GM (and Ford for that count number) may have had sub-par high quality in the hot previous. in spite of the undeniable fact that, because the mid Nineties, their products have extremely more suitable. both Cadillac and Buick were voted in the accurate 5 of shopper pride for 2009 (Cadillac replaced into #a million). maximum mavens (real professionals from places like automobile and motive force, Kelly Blue e book and so on) will say that GM and Ford are as sturdy as or more beneficial useful than their eastern opposite numbers. Who is universal with, it may nicely be a sturdy funding too. With makes like Pontiac and Saturn being phased out, you may nicely be sitting on a destiny blue-chip collector automobile. that's likely truer with Pontiac than Saturn, yet a very last production year form may be worth slightly assuming that's a attractive automobile in sturdy situation. figuring out to purchase some thing like a Pontiac G8 may grant you with a sturdy automobile and a destiny collector automobile.

No there really smart. It's the public that is stupid. Paying extra money for the same truck just because it has a fancier name.Than again you can't expect much intelligence from people who are stupid enough to buy them in the first place.
