Um, without the proper permit from Florida FWC, it is illegal to own, sell, or trade alligator snapping turtles, they're on the state endangered species list, and I believe they are federally protected as well.

And do you really need a pet that will live a whole lot longer than you? And can take off your hand? Oh, they're cool and all, my father has his permit for the one we keep for our educational programs, but I don't mess with the thing, and she's not even really that big... yet... probably only around 45-50 pounds.

Please contact FWC for more information on alligator snapping turtles and the requirements for owning one. And if you absolutely must have one, please, find a reason to have it other than "It's cool."

Check your game and fish regulations, some states have Alligator Snapping Turtles on their protected list and mere possession of them can get you a healthy fine.
Below is the link to the Florida laws and the Alligator Snapping Turtle is listed. You will need to find a breeder of pre-law (exempt) turtles and also need to acquire a permit to keep them in Florida.

Yeah, you need a permit in several states to keep this kind of animal and frankly, no one should be raising them as pets. They're simply not good for domestication and unless you're trying to raise one to an appropriate age where it can live at a zoo or a rescue center, there's absolutely no reason why you should have one in your posession.

You may want to check into this, they are protected so noone should be selling them for pets. You may have to have a license to keep one.
