Many people regard the movie "300" to be deadly accurate when it comes to the lines the Spartans used. Nearly all the lines the Spartan characters use in the movie are taken from ancient greek text.

However, the Persian army was a movie plot. Yes, the Persians has fine cavalry, and elephants, and wore gold, but where never so lavish during combat. Furthermore, it is worth noting that it was not only the "Persians" fighting against the Greeks. It was "Greater Persia" fighting against the Greeks of Sparta. In the movie, the "Persians" in general are fighting againsts the "Spartans and Athenians" (Athenians did not fight with Leonida's 300 men, and did not fight a Persian army until years later).

The movie over-generalized Greater Persia which was composed of 1000 nation states, and called it Persia, which implies present day Iran. This is wrong. However, Persians did take in slaves, but the slaves were treated humanely unlike the Ottoman slaves. I think the director of the movie either spent too much time capturing the Spartans accuratly, or seriously suffered from post-9/11 anti-Muslim sentiment and wanted to take the chanse to portray them as savages.

Warfare is both savage and vicious. The display of warfare is in my mind the one of the finest examples of why there is a need for human rights.
From my point of view, though the 300 Greeks in that battle at Thermopylae lost eventually they were the more savage and vicious of the two forces. They had to be to stall off a force greatly outnumbering them for any amount of time. By the same token the Persians had the numbers that could normally overwhelm a force the size that the Greeks had there. There was another restriction that the Persians faced when trying to overrun that small force in that narrow pass. If the Greeks maintained a well disciplined and tight formation it would restrict the actual number of Persians to a number closer to matching the number of Greeks at any given moment of the battle. If the Greeks would have been spread out over a wider area, Herodotus never would have told the tale.

your a moron. Cyrus is not the King in the movie, which is based off a graphic novel, which is based half on history and half on the greek myths of this battle and inspired by a 1962 movie. it is his grandson, Xerxes who tried to rule by force, and lost is the King, but he did not hold the title in all the country's that he ruled in. Like his father, failed to win in Greece, and the perician empire he ruled went in to downward spirll and finally fell. It is not only misguided to think that Iran and Iraq people are the same people as those of the persains it is wrong, the romans, the Hun and Khan all invaded and took control of those lands, and blended with the people there, just to name the big 3, many others did as well. as for human rights what his grandfather did had little or nothing to do with what was happening during Xerxes rule. It is also believed, from the bible that his wife/ consort was hebrew, but he didn't know it.

But in 480 B.C., an elite band of 300 lean, mean fighting machines known as the Spartans faced off against hordes of Persian soldiers at the battle of Thermopylae, knowing that certain slaughter awaited them. They lost their lives but scored a moral victory for freedom that resounds to this day.check out your history book about it there was a war that went on between these two country for 28 long years over 30,000 men are more lost there lives because what they belived in in some did not really care for the cost they were so mean that they would just kill you with out thinking about in then you were dead there swords weight at 20 to 25 pounds apiece so these guys were really strong to swing these some were swinging two swords at once

This movie is not about the learned or religious people of Persia, it is about a conquering army. Any nation, no matter how sophisticated, can be "savage" in their actions as an army that is actively conquering other peoples throughout the world.

The Persians were depicted as they were portrayed in the graphic novel the movie was based on (essentially a comic book), and should not be taken as totally historically accurate.
