Many department store's make up counter's will help with your make up and skin care as well as Mary Kay, Arbonne, Mac etc. I'm a Mary Kay consultant and have given hundreds of free facials and my sister sells Arbonne and has done the same. Of course, they want you to buy their products, but you are under no obligation to do so. You can also get tips from websites like Robert Jones' www.simplebeaute.com or even www.marykay.com As I said, I am a MK rep., but I would not self-promote by listing my personal site on here. If you want a consultant to contact you, you can type in your zip code and they will give you a referral in your area. But there are many places to go including your local library that can give you beauty tips. But remember, the most important part of beauty comes from the inside.

you could also try a beauty school, when they are teaching their students they get volunteers and that's free. Also you are your own person and what a person may think is not always the best for you. A lot of the people who work at beauty counters put on way to much make up themselves and have a tendency to go overboard with people. The best way to learn is try things out you can always wipe it off if you don't like it.

This is exciting, finally begging to wear makeup! I remember when I first began I commonly applied too much, so always be aware of that...
Anyway, back to your question.
I would advise you to purchase an at home microderm abrasion to clense your skin of all the impurities on the surface; if you have acne prone skin however, I would advise you begin a strict skin care regimine until the majority of your breakouts clear, and your skin is relatively clear of imperfections.
Next I would advise that you find the type of makeup you want to wear, by this I mean, are you looking to be natural, harsh, sexy, wild, and so on. After you have pinpointed this you need to think about the colors which will compliment your new found 'look'. I would advise these things, because I encourage a NATURAL look, rather than cakey and trashy.
My favorite Items to wear:
(After I have used my skin care products: acne face wash, toner, moisturizer)
- With a large blush brush I apply small amount of peach blush to the 'apples' of my cheeks. (Depending apon your skin tone (I am FAIR) you should pick a blush that will allow you to look naturally flushed, NOT red/pink...unless that is the look you're aiming for.
-Next, I curl my eyelashes, and apply black, or brown mascara to my upper lashes only! (Don't be afraid to have fun with the colors, I like icy blue in the winter just for kicks.)
-Last, I apply a small amount of sheer and glossy lip color, and head out the door!
- On occasion, I wear bronzer, generally if I have an occassion or date. When I do, I apply the bronzer in place of blush with a large coarse brush (for optimal pigment to get into the brush and spread on to my face) to the apples of my cheeks the bridge of my nose and a small amount on the chin and a forehead. This tends to give a sun-kissed look that allows you to sunlessly glamorize yourself!
This simple routien works well for me and I feel extremely comfortable with the way I look each day. I am not over done and I feel confident and sexy through and through!
I hope you find it as useful as I do!
**I enjoy wearing the 'name-brand' make up and I would HIGHLY advise you to, even if you are not going to purchase everything/anything, go to a dept. store makeup counter and have them fill you out a card with your everyday (ect.) pigments!
BEST OF LUCK, and remember you can find comprable things within the drug store as well! As I said, good luck, and have fun with wearing makeup, use it to inhance NOT as a mask!

all stores with a make up department will give you a free make up consultation for free... the sales associates for the diffrent make-up brands will do your make up for you to let you test out their product.
Sephora, Macy's or Gottschalks are good places to do this. Just explain ur situation to one of the sales associates and they'll help u out.
