I don't know which of the three famous Ambanis you are referring to: Dhirubhai, Mukesh and Anil.

Well, for Mukesh and Anil, it was an established empire which they inherited and in the name of success, both first started breaking an established consolidated business into two. With due respect to their individual contributions, the broken entities are attracting money and business on the simple principle of "money attracts money"

For Dhirubhai, indeed, it was a journey from scrap to extreme success. To me, he was a practical person who showed exemplary "entrepreneurship" blended with sheer hard work at the stroke of luck by his side as well.

I remember Dhirubai's rise clashing in on with Mehra's of Orkay and today the Mehra's are nowhere seen in Indian Industry. Contemporaries kept telling stories but Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikander!
