make his favorite food
do his favorite thing
watch his favorite movie

Go out to a nice restaurant where the lighting is dim and have a nice glass of wine to go with your dinner. After, go to a nice coffee shop and have an espresso, sit together and share those moments together and remember what you did last year on your anniversary. Or, you can both go out to see a romantic movie, share popcorn, a drink together.
I thought of something just now, that I think my husband and I will do next year. Is take a camera with us on our anniversary and have someone take a picture of the two of us together. Just take some pictures because those are also happy, special moments too, not just birthdays! You do the same.

My husband and I celebrated our 8 year anniversary this week. My husband made up signs and put them along the road I drive to work everyday. Each sign had a word or two on it.
Example:
Happy Anniversary Heather Love Tyler

Why not something obscene?
"No longer newlyweds" is probably an even better reason, for the sake of your relationship's longevity, to find something sexual and intense to make him go "Wow! What was that? I want more of that!" (It tends to help "recharge" the brain chemistry that makes people stay interested in each other...)
Could be simple as doing it somewhere new or you just trying something in a new way...

I like to try to send the kids away (even for a few hours) (if you have any) rent "our" favorite movie, order our favorite fast food-chinese, eat in watch a movie, take a bath together, massage each other, tell stories...like "remember when" or talk about plans you would like to make in the future...like next year I would love to go to disney or on a cruise yada yada yada. look at him and tell him why you love him and what it was you loved most when you met or started dating. Good luck. I am sure you will think of something. Have fun!
Oh yeah.....it is an anniversary, not His but BOTH. so make sure it is something you both like so you can both enjoy it. Save things like sports and stuff for His birthday.

Despite what the general concensus is, men ARE sensitive. Why not do a digital photo album, pics and songs that hold good memories for you both? I had a picture of my hubby holding our newborn son edited into black and white and had it framed, and made a slide show to go with it showcasing memories that i knew would make him laugh and smile, and remind him how much love has been shared. And he cherishes it. Good luck!

How many years have you been together? I say, look online for what year is what. Example: 1st year is paper, 2nd..3rd.. make things revolve around the theme. Make dinner (or if you dont cook, order good food) eat at home in candle light. Even though its the guys who romance the girls.. we have our ways too! Men love food... watch a really good movie that was recently released at home while eating or after eating. Does he like massages? A non-sexual back massage will make him happy. Remind him you still care ^_^

Last year for our aniversary I did a scavenger hunt type clue thing. I left little notes with rhyming clues around that eventually led him to the place we had dinner respervations. It was really fun and he liked it. The clues incorporated things from the past... stuff like "this is where we met on our first date" or whatever stuff like that.

When he comes home drag him straight to the bathroom and give him a bath, bathing him yourself. Then a nice long fellatio job. Then, bring him to the dinner table where you have the best Fillet Mignon prepared with twice baked potatoes and Asparagus and a gallon of Gallo, chilled. And I'm serious about the Gallo. It will get him wasted.
Then take him to beg and hope he's not too drunk to get you off.
