If you're talking about a tourist destination and got cash to spend, then yea it's awesome.

If you're talking about taking up residence here, then let me blabber. I was born and raised here. Now I come and go to visit once in a few years. I usually criticize UAE on a few issues here and there. Truth is ur nationality, ethnicity and educational status counts here and so does your income/social class. So some of that discrimination either works for you or against you (but it's never been an outright thing)...but over the years RIGHTS are being heard. People who complain always tend to forget how other nations are actually extremely MEAN. Westernization has some concern here with older residents (especially Dubai) but most other cities hold to their roots quite firmly. It's one of the most stable and generally easy going places. There's always progress in every field with a new attraction that will pop up and please the public. Out of all the Arab nations I firmly believe UAE is the best and even the fairest place ever. And indeed perhaps one of the best countries ever. You do need lots of cash to enjoy much of it. I was raised in Abu Dhabi (I'm anti-Dubai!) and despite it's flaws it is perhaps one of the best places on earth to raise a family. Just don't get spoilt by the lifestyle. Blabber done.

Shopping and then there is shopping. Smaller towns outside of Dubai and Abhu Dabi are okay - I lived ther for years. The only real reason a person goes to UAE is for an expensive holiday or to work. The salaries are great. The population of UAE is 20% Emirati and the rest are workers from other countries. They are trying to set up the UAE and other GCC countries as business and off shore banking places but it is still too expensive for the average traveller. The people are nice as are most Muslims - very hospitable - just don't say anything against Isslam and be respectful. If you are a woman they will stare if you don't cover anyplace outside the big cities even in AL Ain near Oman they treat uncovered woman as woman looking for "it"

UAE is a one of the most advanced countries. I have lived there for 3 years and I can tell you that it is a place where you need to have lots n lots of money to spend. For working purposes, it is ok. But dont make that place as your residence. It sucks because of show-off. You will end up with spending all of your money just to compete with others. It is not an Islamic country, (I am a Muslim and I am telling you this), it is a westernized place. You are free to have alcohol, drugs, pros, gambling, everything is there. If you have white skin, you will be respected by everyone, even by Arabs. If not, you are a simple expatriat who is ruining their country by earning through their jobs. Weather is too hot.

I lived in Abu Dhabi for three years, and now we are in Dubai.
It is a great place to live, it is a free country, you can wear and do whatever you want.
It is very expensive, rents are unbelievable, we pay a lot for a very small flat.
But I really enjoy every minute here, although it is a very hot country, it is really well taken care of, flowers and lovely parks are everywhere. Really nice beaches and a lot to do for grown ups and children too.

Malls are lovely too, food is great.
People are very nice, lots and lots of foreigners, you rarely see the real people of UAE, mostly people from India , Lebanon and Pakistan is all you see.

I dream of staying here for a long time.

UAE is no longer what it used to be, money
became their worst enemy, civilization is not
to import other people's culture and make it
yours,unfortunately a few more years they'll
lose more than a culture.
