nope....I was a pregnant teenager (pregnant 4 months before I turned 18). We have always took responsibility for our children. A month or two ago I thought the worst would happen because my husband lost his job and couldn't find another one, but luckily he did and thanks to him I can go back to school this year.

That's a really hard question. I think that it all depends on the person (the teenager) I think that if it is someone trying hard to make an effort to better their lives and their child's lives then yes, but if they are not then I think that helping only creates more of a problem. I had my first baby at 18 and I am very responsible, I have always taken care of my children on my own and it would have been really nice to have had a little bit of help from others just to go to school and finish college. I never had help and learned a lot from my mistakes. However, there are people that society would just be enabling if they helped, so I say it really depends on the person and how responsible they are. You can be a responsible person and still get pregnant. Everyone makes mistakes. Not everyone's mistakes can be seen by the whole world though. I have never drank, done drugs, or anything but I did get pregnant and was a good kid!

That's a good question, and it depends on what you mean by 'society' and what you mean by 'more responsibility.'

I must confess, that when I see a pregnant teen move out from mom and dad's and get a govt subsidized apt and get food stamps and govt healthcare and WIC - I do resent it. I do not want my tax money to pay for that kid's indiscretion. [Don't get me wrong - I don't want the baby to pay, either.] So if you are asking if we should give more tax money, I'd say a resounding "NO!" Has the tax money we've already given helped to support these irresponsible teens and their kids helped reduce teen pregnancies? Nope.

It is the parents of the teens who need to assume responsibility. I had a friend [that I met as an adult] who got pregnant at 16. Her parents helped her as a loan; they required her to get a job and pay them back for every diaper they bought that child. It was SO good for my friend. She learned that actions have consequences, and she turned into a really nice human being, got married a few years later, had some wonderful kids. I've known other people that have gotten pregnant, gotten a lot of handouts, and gotten pregnant again.

I think society already takes care of pregnant teens and their babies. This also holds true for the uninsured. We have medicaid for the uninsured and many non-profit organizations in place to help teens and other woman with these issues. It sounds like you are doing a paper or something, so may I suggest checking out the non-profit organization called "no child left behind". They do some pretty great things there and they are nation wide.

i think its the teenagers responsibility if they get pregnant. its the parents responsibility to teach their children about sex and birth control. to teach their boys its not okay to have unprotected sex just because they don't get pregnant, that they still will have to take care of any children they make. i see nothing wrong with teaching sex ed to kids in school, but i feel some parents think just b/c their child took a class they don't have to talk to them. my little brother got suspended 3 days for having a condom in school, hes in middle school. isn't that crazy, schools should encourage condoms not make them seem like a bad thing to have. i think school systems should wise up. teen pregnancy over all is down so maybe they are getting better, or the kids are getting wiser.

I don't think society should be responsible for the mothers or babies... Help offered is fine, but I don't think that it is an entitlement, nor should it be. If you are "responsible" enough to perform the act then you should be mature enough to take responsiblity for you own actions. I was a single mom of two at 17, I never recieved help from any state agency of any kind. I did it, It was my place.

Of coarse. But the real answer is for those that are responsible for their being, to bear the care of the children!

Yes, teenagers are going to have sex no matter what. Birth control pills and emergency contraceptives should be more easily accessible to teens without parent consent. They should sell it at school in the nurse's office and have to take a sex education class with nasty STD films in order to get the medication
