I have a computer with a dvd drive, a dvd burner, and a single hard drive. I only have 2 IDE connections, so I can only have 4 drives total. I want to copy video to the second drive. Should I connect drive C to the primary IDE with one of the DVD drives as a slave, and connect the 2nd hard drive the same way to the secondary IDE,

or,

should I connect both hard drives to the primary IDE, with drive C as the master?

I want to end up with the most efficient setup for each hard drive.

Thanks!

I don't understand Jimbo. If the DVD drives are not being used but the hard drives are running, would the DVD drives still slow down the hard drives? I'm not sure how you even determine how fast a DVD drive is... If you want to email me, great!

As with IDE connections. What ever the slowest device is on that cable will determine the fastest speed available for that channel. Thus if your DVD is the slowest then that will be the fastest transfer rate you will get off of that channel. If however your HDD is the same transfer rate as the harddisk(HDD) then it doesn't matter which channel your drives are hooked up to. But general setup, would be to leave the HDDs together and the DVDs together. since most HDDs are faster than the DVDs. you must also keep in mind that the IDE channels can only read from 1 device at a time unlike SCSI which has a simultanious bi-directional channel.

Hopes this help you with how you setup your drives.

C drive as master and dvd as a slave is the best.(primary IDE)
Your second hard drive as master and dvd as slave will come up as D drive (second IDE)

eliminate the drives out of your laptop so as which you will discover their labels. on the label you will see some training that coach a thank you to set the jumpers (little plastic looking issues on the back of thepersistent). Your "C" power, the only with homestead windows on it, would desire to be set to the two "grasp" or "grasp with a Slave", and the 2ndpersistent would desire to be set to slave. you will additionally would desire to format the hot or 2ndpersistent. If the jumpers are set properly, yet thepersistent isn't formatted, homestead windows won't comprehend it.
