First, I think you can cut back on the water changes just a bit. Your store might be getting rich on the amount of water conditioner they are trying to sell you! Your turtles should be happy, though, to live in such clean water! Most turtles do quite well, though if just 25% to 50% of their water is changed each WEEK! You don't say your turtle's species, but you can look it up in this link and see if they require something different. http://www.austinsturtlepage.com/

If you figure a gallon is just a little more than 4 liters (3.79), you should be able to estimate the amount of conditioner needed. If you change half the water each week, use 2 1/2 capfuls and enjoy the extra time during the week that you won't have to spend with water changes.

They are trying to sell you stuff.

If your water tastes OK to drink, you really don't need to condition it for a turtle. Turtles do not breathe water like a fish, or absorb it through their skin like a frog.

If you still use the stuff, go skimpy with it but don't worry about it a lot.

You also do not need to change that much water every day. What you need is a good filter rated about 3 times bigger than your tank (so a 50 gallon tank needs a 150 gallon filter), and then change about 1/4th of the water about once a week- mostly sucking it off the bottom to clean the gravel.

There are some great articles at http://www.austinsturtlepage.com on filtration and water quality.

Water conditioner is not that critical. An estimate will work fine and will not hurt the turtles or even fish if too much is used. I have had turtles and now have tropical fish and when I do a partial water change, I just give the water conditioner bottle a good healthy squirt (10-20 cc.) in my 40 gallon aquarium. Actually, turtles are not nearly as sensitive as fish to the effects of chlorine, so too little or too much is not really a factor.

I'm like you... I hate the one that says, "1 teaspoon for 10 gallons" I normally add via a 1/2 gallon container.

Hard to estimate.

My solution? buy a different kind of water conditioner. the one I have now needs 'two drops per gallon' guess how easy it is to 'estimate' how much I need for my half gallon jug?

LOL

You should be pretty safe, you do need to condition the new water so you are doing the right thing, and if you are going according to the directions on your bottle of conditioner you should be fine.
