Just out of morbid curiosity. . why don't you just say what you mean and not abbriveiate? It's not like we all can't type 30wpm or more in this day and age. Am I right?

The reason it's used is because these are very common online expressions, and it's simply faster to type the acronym than type the whole thing out. You have to consider how many times one could "LMAO" in one chat sitting -- especially if one is having multiple conversations.

Kinda like what you did for "holy s(&***" it just keeps things together better than doing this "s_h_i_t" cause that can really space stuff out if you swear a lot in your question/additional info.
