About two inches taller than me is ideal for me.
If you have to lean over to kiss them, or if you feel you're protecting them and not the other way around, they're too short.

Ideal?
Well, height isn't that big a deal to me (or to a lot of women, and, by the way, women aren't all identical to each other).
But I suppose -- all else being equal, which it never is -- somewhere between just a little taller than me to a bunch taller than me (though not WAY taller than me).
So, from, say 5 feet 9 to a bit over 6.
They are short when they are noticeably shorter than me, so, say 5 feet 5 and shorter.
But, as I say, this is NOT a deal-maker or a deal-breaker.
I just find it physically comfy in that range.
