The Blue Jays play in Toronto, Canada. When the term world series was coined, America was the only country to play pro baseball. Its part of history now and the best team in America or Canada at the end of the year will always be the World Champions. Some day a team from overseas might be in MLB. Until then other countries will have to settle for trying to win the World Baseball Classic.

Baseball relies on its own history. When it was named the World series, it meant more that it was a big thing rather than universal thing. Now that sports are more around the world, it sounds silly to be called the world series but they will never change history in baseball.
It will always be the world series just to keep the stats and history in line
