What about comparing atoms to ions and elements and maybe design the periodic table and the elements on that and explain that all of us are made of atoms such as CO2 etc. Hope this helps. Sounds like fun.

How about the effects of color on taste? So you would bake a batch of cookies and dye different portions of the batch different colors, then do taste tests with friends and family and see if they think the cookie that is dyed orange tastes like an orange. I don't know if that really fits the category though.
