This is usually difficult to see much earlier that 16 or 17 weeks and it is better to wait until about 20 weeks to obtain an ultrasound that is likely to answer this question. Even then it depends on the cooperation of the baby to flash the tech with the right pose, some babies just will not cooperate. Maye a little sugar buzz such as drinking a Mountain Dew before the scan will wake up that baby and more likely give a peek at that part of the babies anatomy.

U can actually tell very early on, but most people don't get an U/S that early b/c the baby is so small. The best time for an ultrasound to see formed body parts is between 20 and 22 wks. If you're just wanting to know for sure what your having (but don't care if u actually SEE it) u can get an amniocentesis done- it's 100% accurate and can also test for certain defects if you're at risk.

I found out the gender of my baby (and the tech was right!) at 17 weeks. But she said it was still considered early to be able to tell. My BOY was cooperating though - he was laying with his legs wide open and it was either a BOY ...or a third leg sprouting. Ha! I think they can sometimes tell even earlier IF the baby is cooperating like that. :)

My friend does U/S she says 18 weeks but if it is a girl the later the better .. When I was pregnant she told me not to schedule the U/S until 20 - 22 weeks and it would be more accurate.. good luck

When I was 20 weeks both times they were allowed to check, the sexual organs start off as female, and might stay female or change to male, 20 weeks is perfect, before then they might tell you that you are having a girl and she pops out a boy.

They can usually tell what you are having at your 20 week scan, sometimes even earlier depending on the position they are in.
