Why do we scientists have such a lousy rep?

We're portrayed in movies as nerds with thick glasses who can't talk to the opposite sex. I and many other scientist individuals are NOT that.

WE scientists don't have a bad rep. I drove the educational system to the end of the road. Those of us who made it here enjoy each others company, (& Virgos find me fascinating). I don't care how Hollywood portrays me. I assume you're a doctor too?

If you are a scientist then figure it out scientifically. What variables effect the situation. Understand it, predict it, control it. You might look for data related to the anthropology of religion, the history of religion, and basic human behavioral science. In time, science will prevail because religious faith cannot create iPods or lighting for night baseball.

Movies and popular culture do sometimes drive peoples mental images of what a scientist looks like, how he acts, talks and what he wears. Of course scientists are as varied as any other group in these areas. But people do like to think that your mental prowess precludes looks and social skills. It's just not fair for one person to have it all!

Because people who are not scientist are jealous of the fact that they don't have the big brains so they try and find a way to make the scientists feel lower then them!!!

~most americans are afraid of science and are not interested in you when you tell them that you work in science - so they build this 'psyco' sterotype of us because we make them feel dumb~
