The point of life is to enjoy it! Make the most of it!
Perfectionism is paralyzing. It prevents you from enjoying your life. If you set up impossible standards for yourself you will never feel good enough. You will never be happy.
I understand where you're coming from. I have been a perfectionist most of my life. It was a blessing in some respects. It pushed me to do well in school. I was always a straight A student. But even when I was the best, I never felt good enough. I stressed myself out unnecessarily. Over the years, I learned to go a little easier on myself. I gave myself permission to make mistakes, to be less than perfect. Recently I've come to realize that the key to happiness isn't achieving perfection, but relinquishing your need for it. I like myself. I couldn't always say that. Now that I can, I'm happier. & I can allow myself to do a bad painting, to write a bad song, to make a foolish blunder. I am a valuable person because of who I am, not what I do. If it had to be perfect then I'd never dare to create anything & I'd miss out on some great songs & paintings that didn't come out quite how I originally wanted but which are kind of cool anyway. I am learning to be more positive. As a result, wonderful things have been happening in my life (buying a beautiful new home in a new town, showing & selling my artwork, writing songs and performing at a local bar each week, getting my picture on the front of the paper, doing a local radio interview, meeting Mr. Right, recording a CD...) Ironcially, the best way to find success is to be happy without it and then it finds its way to you!
Love yourself. Enjoy your life. None of us are perfect. There will always be someone seemingly "better off" physically or financially. Don't be fooled. They have their issues too. Don't compare yourself to others. Be happy with who you are. We are all different & we all have unique gifts. It's not a race. It's not a contest to see who is the best. Cut yourself some slack. Even if you think you're the top of the food chain some shark can always swim along & put you in your place. Be humble, yet proud. You are not mediocre. You are a miracle of nature. Celebrate life. It is still a beautiful world if you let it be. Focus on the beauty.
I used to be the princess of negative (my Mom is the queen!) if I can learn to be positive then anyone can! It's a work in progress but I'm getting there. I've been learning a bit about quantum physics & the law of attraction. It really works. Your thoughts have an energy. You have the power to make wonderful things happen. Start believing the best. Say nice things to & about yourself & see how different your life becomes...
Take care.

Sorry man. I don't have a mountain for you to climb, to see the all knowing guru. But you need to ask yourself, "Is money the only important thing in my life"? Yes it helps, providing you spend it wisely (like not losing it on bad sports bets, drugs, or fair-weather-friends) and still respect yourself while doing it. If you think for a moment that you can even come close to being perfect, then you are in for a huge disappointment. All's that we can do is try our best to be decent human beings. Not drug dealing, dope smoking, child molesting perverts, (not in that order) who only live for the day and themselves. Being successful doesn't just mean financially, but by what good deeds you did in this world to make a difference. Be true to yourself and good and fortunate things will come your way. But never expect something for nothing. You need to earn it and more importantly, deserve it. It seems that you understand that you're not perfect, which is good, but you also sound bitter towards those who fare "better"? The "better to be on the top of the food chain" attitude is why people in this world of ours, stopped caring about one another. Nobody has the right to walk over others. Nobody. Those who do, are usually rich or angry (meaning the bully from school) and they make it a point to show their arrogance. I've kickboxed professionally for years and I'm the most humble person I know. Live your life with joy to be alive. What's the alternative?

There are a lot of cliche things one could say: Life is for children, life is for happiness, life is what you make of it, etc. I think we all know that these are probably false, or at least not true for everyone.
The truth is that no one knows. There isn't an answer. And those who would tell you otherwise are only kidding themselves. And I know you said to assume that perfection and "being better" are not relative, but, well, they are relative. Everything is.
All I know is that I am glad there is not a single, monolithic answer. What if you weren't satisfied with that answer? It would be like sitting through a terrible, terrible movie, unable to walk out of the theater. But in this world (as it applies to people in Western society wealthy enough to afford a computer and internet access) we have a huge amount of freedom as to how we live our lives. Our only real requirements are that we breathe, drink, and eat. And if we don't like that, we still have the capacity to end it all ourselves.
So go snort some cocaine. Go volunteer at a hospital. Go volunteer at a hospital after snorting some cocaine. Enjoy yourself. Or not. It's up to you.

Then you go for the top and you will get there. No one wants to be mediocre, just some have more stamina, or simply don't mind stepping on other people to get to the top.
You are not mediocre. You probably have a lot more to offer than you realize. Begin looking for good thngs to do to help people, (simple things like helping them carry their groceries from the car to the house). You will be amazed at how much better it will make you feel to give of yourself. You will never be mediocre if you gave of yourself.

I think you better count your blessings for everything you have, start having more appreciation for the things that you do have in life. Nobody is perfect, you can't find a human being that is perfect in every way, nobody has it all, every body has a problem just look at the movie stars sure they have everything they wish for but when it comes to privacy in their lives,.......
Please give this a little thought and pray to god to help you understand what life is all about so you can have peace.......

First thing you have assumed that YOU LIVE. You have not come in this world by your choice and you are not going to die with your choice. When two inevitable things have happened with utter disregard to your choice, there is no point in thinking that whatever you have gained or not gained is your achievement or nonachievement. To make efforts is the only thing in your hand and everything that happens is because it is destined in that way. So stop using the word "the Capital "I"

There is no point whatsoever. Even if you could be perfect, there is no point to human existence. We wouldn't be here if the asteroid hadn't hit 65 million years ago. We will soon all be dead and everything we have done will be dust.
Monkeys, mosquitoes, and cows have no desire to be the best. They just are. I find it ironic that, the largest brained animal, would insist on something so silly as "perfection" as a prerequisite for existence.

The point of life is to pass on the torch to future generations...so with that light they may read the sad, messy history of their fathers and mothers. Keeping the past alive and building the future. Hope.
