For awhile slavery, racism, spousal abuse and animal cruelty were accepted as ok and totally natural, and anyone who opposed it was ridiculed and called a "n*gger lover"...or just plain "n*gger". Today we understand that those are wrong, but now think promiscuity, broken families, violence and coughcoughabortioncough is ok and totally natural and anyone who opposes it is called a "prude" or "repressive". Which got me thinking, hmmm...how much longer until we finally acknowledge that those are wrong again and then start accepting some other set of vices? Our society can never seem to find a healthy moral balance, but hey, who said this planet is perfect?

You bring up some really great points. I think as a society we haven't figured out the balance of tolerance yet. We tend to over-accept or under-accept. It depends. Will we get so much to the overly-tolerant point where we allow murders out because we don't want to infringe upon the rights of the murderer? If we continue along our path and don't go back a bit to where we're truely tolerant of people for where they come from (good balanced tolerance) but not what they choose to do (over-tolerance), than I fear it may get to this point. If we do wise up about it, I hope we find the balance. But if we go back too much, we will probably just repeat history there. If only we as a society were wiser in what we accepted and what we didn't accept.

I think extremism will be our next big pitfall. Extreme acceptance. You yourself noted the trend to villify anyone that does not agree with the "PC" ideas of today. I think that out of fear of insulting anyone or anything we are going to accept all things. To the point of social and moral failure. There is an old saying; "If you don't stand for something you will fall for anything." We are headed that way.
We accept abortion, teen mothers, homosexuality, gradeless schooling, illegal aliens, moral extremist, pretty much anything and anybody. Which isn't all a bad thing IF they could all co exist-they can't. Something's gotta give. As to what, your guess is as good as mine.

It seems that the trend is moving toward drug abuse coupled with rampant stupidity; a medium county nearby busted HUNDREDS of meth labs.
Please instead of smoking meth, snort some draino and save innocent bystanders mountains of aggrivation.
