Contrary to what 'joe' thinks, the Sun *does* evolve over its life-cycle. And, as it evolves, it cause marked changes in Earths weather patterns by increasing or decreasing the average temperature of the planet, and by causing changes in the magnetosphere (due to variations in the Solar Wind) which can, in turn, cause the the amount of background cosmic radiation to go up and increase the rate of mutation(s) and, hence, the rate at which evolution of species itself proceeds.

And of course, with modern technology, a large solar flare or a sunspot (they're not the same thing) can play merry hell with our communications at times.

HTH ☺
