I love my Fender I bought at a pawn shop for $200; the neck is slim and the frets are sweet to play and the sound is fab; check out all the pawn shops you might even luck up and find a Martin at a good price.

Don't listen to the first guy. I feel that electric guitars aren't as cool to play as acoustics. Acoustics take much more skill, pressing the frets, bending, etc. I've got a 70's Blueridge and I love it, but I hear that their guitars are kind of expensive now. Yamaha's are a great purchase. Some are inexpensive and sound great. Fender has some acoustics also. They sound fabulous, as you would expect, but the price rises dramatically from beginner to intermediate.

in my oppinion you should buy a cheap acoustic guitar only for practicing (i bought one in wal-mart for $40) and with the resting $310 you should save more money or buy for an elec-guitar or buy a cheap one. You can buy guitars from $150. I know its the same sound as an acoustic electric, but an electric gives you more rockstar image and the girls will love you.

pre-shop online at musiciansfriend.com. then go to guitar center near you. they're affiliated ( price matching to on line) and have 100's of guitars on display that you can play and find exactly what you need. usually some very good trade-ins there too. i'm a DJ and spend a lot of time there. SAM ASH stores blow in comparison.
