Hi:

You'll probably need something like a dremel rotary tool with a small diamond drill bit - I'd probably go pretty slowly to take it easy on the seashell. You can even drill holes in glass with a dremel and a diamond drill bit, so I don't think you'll have a problem with a shell. I think the dust from seashells can be really bad for you to breathe, so you might need to drill it while it's underwater in something like a small bowl. If you don't already have a dremel, there's a nice stylus type one that looks like it would be very handy. Hope this helps.

If you use an ordinary drill you may break it. But there are drills you can use like a high speed Dremel or similar that will make a hole without breaking it.

I almost agree with the first answer except you can use a normal (small) drill because shells are pretty soft and NEVER USE ELECTRICAL TOOLS UNDER WATER.

i've tried to tape the place you want to make the hole with a thick double tape (i dont know the name.. but the colour is grey) and then you just make the hole.. it helps you to reduce the vibrate, so it will not crack.. ^^

i have done it with pointed nail sissors, just keep twisting it back and forth in one place slowly drilling a hole.
