I live in Fort Lauderdale but I have relatives in Jax and Daytona. If you want to surf then you definitely want the East Coast because the ocean in the Gulf of Mexico near Tampa/Clearwater is smooth as glass. Daytona is laid back but has pretty good nightlife and probably has the best access to the beaches. Tampa and Jax are big cities with all of the advantages and disadvantages that big cities have to offer. In all the cities you mentioned, housing prices are usually cheaper, the further you are from the ocean.

Hope this helps and welcome to the sunshine state!

Daytona Beach is about as laid back as it gets. Almost anything goes here. There is PLENTY of night life, the beach is cool. I have met lots of people from all over the world here. It is generally pet friendly. There is a dog beach not far away. You can generally just be yourself. No real "cliques". Yes, a couple of times a year it gets a little crowded- Bike Week, Biketoberfest (Both are a BLAST!), Spring Break, and BCR. But that is fleeting. Lots of diversity. I appreciate it.

I live in the Tampa Bay Area. I love it here. One thing you might want to consider is the weather. Summer is hot all over, but in the winter the north is colder than Tampa Bay, and the south is warmer. It is much hotter living inland than along the beaches.

I live along the Clearwater beaches. I like salt water. The fishing is great in the Gulf of Mexico. There is plenty to do here, and it's only 20 miles to Tampa, where this is alot to do ; also.

You will probably check on the internet of all the things you can do in this area, and the rent. Alot of the apts. allow pets. You just have to check them out.

Lots of luck in your choice!

Orlando is the best city! It was recently listed as one of the best cities for working and living in America because of the many high paying jobs, the beaches and entertainmet. Additionally, many people live outside of the city and enjoy the small town feel, with access to the city close by!

Clear water is my choice out of it all. It has beautiful beaches and a great strip that is really awesome at night. and on top of that your to far away from South Beach. The Pier has great shops and even better restaurant's. So yea that is the one i would choose
