The ship captain's duty I would think is not to go down with the ship but to make sure everyone is off before it does go down though he may very well perish trying to free those who are entrapped.

Oh, are you meaning that there's not enough life boats... would you go down to let others have a chance to live? Hmmm, can't say. Life & death situation. Some people will never know for sure, until push comes to shove. People would like to say they'd do the honorable thing, like run into a burning building or up to a burning car & try to save someone, but when push comes to shove, some may panick or get paralyzed in a sense.

I think I could run into a burning building or up to a burning car... but water.... I'm not a good swimmer & I still have a fear of certain heights. To me, water is also a height problem cuz when the water is deep, the bottom is too far away. -of course. I love being at the lake -fishing, water sporting or at or on the ocean if I have floatation devices or life jackets nearby! :) Of course if one of your kids' were drowning, there'd come the huge adrenaline rush!

I would if I had to choose between myself and the crew or passengers. The way I see it, whatever made the ship go down in the first place was at least partly my fault. But I wouldn't be all noble and stupid. If, after everyone else was off safely, there was a way for me to leave too, I'd go.

Well it would depend entirely if it was due to my fault that the ship was sinking.
if i caused it to sink, i'm going down with that sucker, no way i'd wanna be "that captain who sank his ship".
however if it was sinking due to a storm or something else i couldnt have influenced then im off that sucker quicker than the rats.
well thats a lie, as captain id do everything in my power to ensure everyone was clear before i abandond

Hello! No way Jose! I'd get those off I could but then set things so I could get to some safe place until I was rescued. No ship is worth giving your life up for. There's too much to live for, see happen, and experience to do such a thing. I'd say bye bye ship... too bad!
