right now i am in the mood to find new music that is similiar to the above mentioned artists.
If there is something along the lines of: simon and garfunkel, joni mitchell, paul simon, jewel, jack johnson, dave matthews band, tom petty.
are there any artists you think i should check out? and any specific songs?
out of those, i like paul simon's "Graceland" and " still crazy after all these years", joni mitchell's "River", jack johnson's "posters", "mudfootball", "never know"
i also like Tracy Chapman's "Fast Car"

I know they are not all folk per se but that is kind of a more broad description that might help you see what i am looking for...

thanks!

Hmm...try some of these bands/artists: Phish, America, Norah Jones, Harvey Danger, John Mayer, Phantom Planet, or Regina Spektor. Hopefully you'll like at least one of them.

Also, this is just a blatant advertisement for my favorite music site, but check out www.pandora.com. It's an amazing music suggestion web radio site. If you type in some of the bands and songs you mentioned above, you'll likely get back a slew of songs that you'll like.

Al Stewart is your kind of music. The Grateful Dead were quite folky and acoustic on their studio albums, e.g. Workingman's Dead and American Beauty. You might skip some of the noisier tracks, but Eric Clapton used to do about 60% mellow country rock. America were a nice band in the '70s, although their new comeback album has reviewed badly. J.J. Cale is a master of mellow rock. Donovan was a '60s folk star you'd like.

James Taylor is awesome. Saw him live and could not belive how good he is. His band is one of the best collection of musicians. Check out his "Live" double CD for an example. You will also like Jackson Browne. Start with "The Pretender" CD. Enjoy.
