ahhhh, I have a proven idea to you, use White Vinegar, about one cup to your rinse water this is a measurement for medium to large loads but you should not wash this blanket with anything else as the mold could get on other things as well so do wash it separately, the vinegar will clean and disinfect and kill the mold and it will come out smelling fresh again and will soften the blanket quite nicely. Good Luck !

Very simple, Wash the blanket the way you always do. Add 2 cups of white vinegar to the rinse water, that will remove the odor, if you smell the vinegar when you put it in the dryer, don't worry it will be gone when you remove it..

Hang it outside in the sunshine for a day. The sunlight should get rid of the mildew/mold and any smell.

Throw it out!
The cost of cleaning this item will far out weigh the cost of replacing it. What you smell is Mold. Unless you feel comfortable sleeping under a blanket that has been soaked in a Biocide (Bio = Life, Cide = Kills), get rid of it.

Try adding a couple of cups of straight, white vinegar to a wash cycle along with the regular measure of detergent, and another cup of vinegar during the rinse cycle.
Hope this helps!! If it doesn't, relegate it to the trunk of your car for use during emergencies, or give it to the local animal shelter.

Yep, you can buy a product called Ororban. It RAWKS! It will work for that and you can use it to clean your house, car, clothes, spray on furniture. It is really great stuff. I buy mine at Sams Club. It is in a gallon jug and you dilute it. Good luck with your stinky blankie. :)
