If I have no access to that person, I pray. Even if I do, I pray.

Listen, listen and listen some more. Don't judge. Don't try to fix it for them. Keep reassuring them that you're there if they need you and remember that if someone is that closed, they're probably not going to ask for help, (in a healthy way), so it's a good idea to keep in touch. Even if they choose not to pick up the phone or answer the door they'll be reminded that they're not really alone with their problems, that there is someone who wants to help them. That may be the best you can do.

Yes, and don't make fun of this, but that is why I am on Yahoo- for all the corny crazy questions, there have been at least 12 people that I know my answer helped them.
To answer yours-- patience- I assume this person you can SEE in person and not just here in cyberspace so be patient- watch how he reacts to your comments- never be demeaning, judgemental or assuming- listen intently to what he has to say and if you know this person well, you will know when the time is right to really help and give the answers that are needed. Most of us know what has to be done and what has to be said to us--- all of us are never ready to hear it, no matter who it comes from......but he will love you more no matter how much your answer hurts him at first............good luck to you and your friend............

Sometimes watching a loved one suffer is all we can do. just being there for them so they know they are not alone maybe the limitation of our involvement especially if there are no answers to give we must hope and pray that that person will work their way through it and trust that God will and is watching over that person.Hard as it is to accept sometimes we are confined to the sidelines.

This is a mistake done by many.....
We think we see the other persons agony or needs ....
We need to wait and to be prepared when this person asks for help...
Any other time it would/could be viewed as intervening and possibly prying....
Subtle hints to let them know that you are available works best....
Just be there for them...in body, mind, and soul........â¥yahoo!!â¥

Yes, I have, wanted to do that--with my mother, actually--and there was nothing I could do until she was ready to come to me.
