I just saw the movie a few hours ago, and beside the look and the muscles of the film, the film wasnt on anything. The plot was weak, the characters were flat like napkins, it was short but it felt long, and the villians of the piece were minorities! Whats up with that?

Great movie. The plot can't be that weak since it is a real event. Characters may have been a little flat, but how deep can you make a real person without that much evidence to support his behaviors.

This is the best comic book adaptation ever.

And tell me how were the villians minorities? The movie wasn't based in America.

The villians were minorities eh? Way to get your figures straight. The total amount of those in Xerxes army easily matched or topped the entire population of Greece, so that wouldn't make them the minority in this situation. This movie was based on the graphic novel by Frank Miller ("Sin City"). The movie was pretty much true to it, with an expanded female role for Queen Gorgo, to attract female views (and the addition added to the movies greatness). It was overall a great movie, and one of the best in recent memory. I would say it is the movie to beat currently for 2007.

I think there are a couple reasons that contributed to the hype.

1.) It was an adaptation of a Frank Miller graphic novel, the same guy behind Sin City, so people were probably expecting the same kind of buzz.

2.) The movie looked really really good, visually. Usually, when a movie can look realy, really good, it gets attention.

3.) Finally, there hasn't been a decent looking action movie in a while and this one looked promising with it's slo-mo fight sequences, Gladiator-esque battles and a main character that's yelling half his dialogue.

That's just my take.

If your from mexico and you;re mexican are you a minority? only to an american. The Persian Empire were made up of over 1000 nations. none of which were minorities. The film was a graphic novel, only the 2nd of its kind. The only other movie like that is Sin City. The characters had depth, the queen wanted to save her country and did anything for it. the politician was greedy and two faced. the king had one thing on his mind, and if you think real american men are close to how people live in the past your sorely mistaken.

People who dont stand for something will fall for anything.

That my friend has more depth than the ocean.

Leonidas easily has more depth than your neighbor, guaranteed. He believed in something and would do anything for it...do you know anyone like that?

Well, you apparently are in the minority when it comes to liking this film. It was number one at the box office. Experience has shown that it doesn't matter if you as an individual think the plot is weak. The masses loved it.

It had a lot too do with the way it was shot. all green screen no real sets. and by minorities do you mean asians? the 2 biggest popultions on the planet? It was who they fought. Did you think that Blackhawk down was making blacks look bad since there is like 2 maybe 3 speaking parts by black us rangers?

It was described as an epic movie, and lets face it, we Americans love a good epic war movie. I think the way it was filmed looks cool, but other than that I doubt it's gonna be very interesting. Thanks for giving me the warning!

That is odd; I don't think many minorities were even in the region during that time.
