To be honest growing up in a sports bar (my father owns one) and now being a manager in another one looks do go into hiring our servers and any other front of the house staff, its not the number one thing but it goes into the thought process. Usually if they arent that attractive and we dont think thier going to bring in business (especially the hosts) we put them on a day shift especially sunday mornings. I know it sounds wrong but you have to think of whats best for the business. If you think about who goes to sports bars it mostly men and i think we all know that men arent going to go somwhere that the women arent attractive.

I think it depends on who's doing the hiring and if it's privately owned or a corporation. Technically, it's discrimination if they are only choosing people based on looks...but we all know certain employers will find a way around things if they don't want to hire someone. It should be judged based on experience, but being well groomed and having good hygiene is also important for any restaurant. After all these are the people who are representing their restaurant.

Attractiveness is in the eyes of the beholder. Depends on who's doing the hiring. Attractive features are an assest. When it comes to serving, your people skills are important if you truly want to succeed at it.

I know that's true for Hooters, but I would think sportsbars might be more open minded.
