I have a Kenmore front loader dryer. Only two years old. The digital readout lights up and works fine, so it is not a blown fuse. However, when I push the start button nothing happens. Once in a while it will start up, but that is becoming increasingly rare. When it does start, it works perfectly fine. Anything I should check before paying a repair person?

Believe it or not, this can happen if the filter is not cleaned. My neighbour had the same thing happen - he had never cleaned the filter - and bingo, after taking off all the congealed fluff stuck in the filter, it worked fine. In his machine, it was a plastic saucer-like thing attached inside the door. No repairs at all.

The dryers with electronic controls use relays to send power to the motor & heating elements. When you push the start, these relays close-sounds like they're going bad.
