I have a Gateway MT3705 laptop. It has 2x512 MB DDR2 SDRAM 533 MHz

If I go to Circuit City and get a 1GB DDR2 chip at 667Mhz will that work on my laptop?

I'm trying to find the best deal here. I'd love to walk into a store and but it, rather than order it.

Thanks. Vista needs more than 1G.

Thank you in advance. I'll be sure and award best answer.

Yes it will work. You can go higher on the Mhz of the same type RAM (DDR2) and it will still work, but only at the speed of your computer's FSB. You just cannot go lower on the Mhz.

Only if you plan on taking out the two 512mb sticks. All memory that is in your laptop at the same time has to run at the same speed. If you want to increase to 2g then you need to buy 2 - 1gb chips at 667 mhz.

Your FSB (front side bus) on this board is 533mhz so really the 667mhz is kind of over kill. I would recommend sticking with a 1GB stick of DDR2 533mhz and keeping 1 of those 512MB to give yourself 1.5GB since there are 2 slots.

a million) in case you have sixty 4-bit OS, you need to use extra effective than 4GB of RAM. 2) I doubt the better overall performance with DDR3 is going to outperform having 2 extra GB of RAM with unique DDR2.

If you want to add 1GB Ram 667MHz along with one of your existing 512MB 533 MHz RAM it wont work. coz all the memory modules you use should be of same speed.

it will work but it will only run as fast as the slowest chip.

The 667 would run at 533.
