I was wondering if you have thyroid problems if it can cause you to miss a period or stop having one? I have heard that it can I am just wanting to know if it is true. If it is true, when do you usually get your period back? What are the symptoms of thyroid trouble

Yes, having a thyroid problem can cause you to have a missed period. the condition PCOS can also cause this. Usually once you get your thyroid levels correct, you should start to have normal periods. For most, normal is a TSH around 1.0. If that doesn't help, then there are other thyrid medications and USP progesterone cream. I've know a couple of women who got their thyroid regulated, but still weren't having periods. They started with USP grade progesterone cream and now they are regular.

Symptoms of an underactive thyroid are; weight gain, constipation, dry skin, dry thinning hair, muscle & joint aches, depression, menstrual problems, fertility problems, fatigue, depression, sensitivity to cold, headache, brittle ridged fingernails, goiter, slow heart rate, sensitivity to light, thin eyebrows at the outer edges, and deepened voice.

Symptoms of an overactive thyroid are, weight loss, diarrhea, nervousness, headache, difficulty sleeping, fast heart rate

Diagnosis is a morning blood test for TSH, Free T4, and Free T3. You might want an antibody test too
