I graduate in May with a Masters that qualifies me for 80k/year jobs for the first time in my life. I am also 33 with infertility issues. It is time to start a career and take a job with long hours to make a name for myself, the baby I want to make will require time for in-vitro treatment and impair my ability to be at the top of my game during pregnancy. Can anyone see a way I can have both? Must I choose one? If I wait to job hunt for the hard job I need to get the right training into my 40's- I might not be such a hot hire when my degree is seven years old and I compete with the new grads. Good luck conceiving after 40. What words of wisdom can you offer?

Not every company expects you to work a zillion hours per week and give up a personal life in order to get ahead. Many companies these days realize that quality-of-life issues are important to attract and retain top-notch employees. Do a web search for family friendly companies, and target your job search efforts there.

If you want a baby as badly as you say you do, your body is not going to wait. Infertility is a tough haul (trust me, I know.) You shouldn't have to choose between the lifelong commitment to raising a child and the ability to be a dedicated and competent employee. There ARE employers who value all of those attributes; I wish you every success in finding the one that will be perfect for you.

I'm a consultant that helps people with finding solutions in health, wealth, or time (including the family vs. job dilemma). I'd need to ask you some questions, though, before I can really help you find the answer to this dilemma.

Feel free to e-mail me at my e-mail address in my profile, I'd be more than willing to help you, but this is a dilemma that requires finding more information before it can be answered in a useful way for you.

With technology and the ability to telecomute these days- you do NOT need to choose. As long as you let your manager know stuff like... "I have day care responsibilities- but will follow up on XYZ later this evening (an do it)" it works out well for working woman these days.

I think that the better choice is: "¿What election may you happy?". Not only for a short time. By the rest of you life.

Where you find the more happiness, there is the better election.

Saludos.

even if you have a child - you probably will pay someone else to raise it.
adopt someone else's baby when it's more convenient for you.
unless it's all about your ability to make a baby, of course.
