Why? Seriously, people. Why do so few people read the MANUALS that come with their hardware? The same questions flood Yahoo! Answers every day. Something like "hi i just bught my new laptup and i my cnt find com port or whatevr how to fix this" or "my computer is sloooooowwwww.... what do i do".
I don't know if you knew this, but when you buy something, you usually get a manual for no extra charge right out of the box. The point of those manuals is to be READ, but why do so many people just ignore them?

Don't get me wrong, when I gave examples of the 'questions', I spelled them wrong not because I'm making fun of ESL students, but because that's what I find on a lot of questions (US Yahoo! Answers). I used to be an ESL student myself.

I feel I have to respond. Although I've been around computers since the early 80's I know a lot of people who aren't computer savy at all. For example: my boss called the I.T. team at work to find out how to enter capital letters (I kid you not). At my workplace about 30% of the people there have never worked on a computer (healthcare industry).
In defence of newbies, I just bought a laptop this week (with Vista and Office 2007). I'm feeling like a newbie now. Quite frankly there was NO manual. Fortunately, I know about the help features available and text files so I was able to get up and running quickly. However picture someone who's never owned a computer before. They open the box, turn on the computer, it does its thing loading the software for 3 hours, shows you a pretty picture and then you're on your own. Where do you start?
Another thing, many of the people on here are ESLs (English as a Second Language) and the "manuals" may not come in there native languages.
Anyway, if you don't like the newbies, check out the help sites that are geared to the more advanced users such as MrExcel.com or just sit back and remember the first time you got a computer, drove a car, etc. and realize how valuable you are to the newbies (and the not so newbies, too).

Actually we are not taught to read in school. We just taught word recognition. Reading is just that, to read. I read signs, books, manuals, etc. It a disciplined mind thought. A person that reads will read whatever waiting at the Doctor or passing the Bulletin Board at school. But, we are never taught this and few ever learn it on their own. Heck, before I got my last MOBO I went on-line and got the PDF manual and had read through it 2 times and when the Board came I was prepared. Knew what plugs were what and how to work in the BIOS to make adjustments for what I wanted.

I have no idea how obvious it is, but English is my second, uhmmm... third, better said my fourth language... and I dare to contribute with answers (and also questions) to Y!Answers. I wonder how can these people (that barely can ask a question) understand the answers? I agree with sourwire. People should do some homework before asking (stupid) questions.

I wrote 'ho' as a replace of 'boost' on a 360 internet website,it grew to alter into into hilarious indoors the context of shock and that diverse touch .......and 'rod' as a replace of 'highway',made the reality very sexual, beneficial typo's.
