I mean not all teenagers do, but some. Is it stress? School? Parents?Peers? What are some ways of dealing with attitudes/stress?

2. Does anyone know what ethnicity has the most attitudes and maybe why?

Teenagers have attituded because they are genetically predisposed to being drama queens. Its the hormones, nature designed teenagers to rebel and run away from home to reduce population pressures.

The teen age is in fact a making period in human life. There are changes in the body system. Depending on the parents temperaments which ultimately has come down to the off springs, they tend to react to their body changes the way their parents react with each other.

Since they are not yet ripe to the full man or women and in the changing phase, they need to be cared very maturely so that any rash handling may not cause any irreparable damage in their mind set.

Well, being sort of a teenager myself, I actually don;t really get attitudes. If I ever do, it's mostly because of stress or I'm in a bad mood. I don't really like talking back for no reason.

Teenagers have a sense of entitlement, like they DESERVE everything. They're also trying to break loose from their parents. They resist because they dont know any better.

I doubt anyone will ever do a study about which race's teenagers has the worst atitude. They all stink when you're the parent!

even though - yes, most teens get surly, it is a two way street.

parents start getting all freaked out about grades, sex, drugs, and asserting power when their kids are in the teen years.
they continue to treat their kids like third graders because they are afraid that their babies are growing up too soon. parents get scared, so they hold on tighter.

meanwhile, the teen needs to assert independence, yet is struggling with this because peer opinions are very important. teens have it bad because they aren't babies and they need to have responsibility, yet they don't exercise TRUE independence. they listen to their friends, who know even less than THEY do.

teens also have it rough biologically, with the hormones, pimples, growth spurts and awkwardness, and so on.

when i was a teen, i thought my mom was out to get me. i really did. i COULDNT STAND HER. but when i moved out of the house during my sophmore year in college, we became very close. our mother-daughter bond changed. i think it's because i could be my own person, and she trusted that she gave me the tools to be my own person.

i think all ethnicities are the same, as far as attitude goes. it sucks being 13, for everybody.

This question really should be as old as *What is the meaning of life?*

Teenagers get attitudes for all the reasons you listed and more....Pressure at school to keep their grades up, pressures from their friends, pressure from boys (for the girls) and vice versa.......I know some realllllly snotty-a&& teenagers....but then I know some really cool ones too.....teenagers that have a really solid family foundation and are grounded in themselves, they know what they want...and are working hard to meet their goal....

I have a 14 year old (as well as twin 11 year olds) and I am very grateful that all seems to be going well in our world. There are good days and bad days....everyone has them, adults too...so its only normal to understand that teenagers will have bad days too....

Of course, for every bad day we do have.....my mother laughs hysterically at me and gives me no sympathy whatsoever.......I was a helluva teenager myself......:)

It has not much at all to do with hormones as some suggested. Rather, what you see as attitude is them struggling for independence and testing the limits of authority; handling situations they aren't yet familiar with.

Teenager are like toddlers. Little toddlers begin to explore and try to get into everything and try new things by touching and grabbing and reaching etc.. Teenagers are like that. Their bodies are changing and hormones racing and they want to get out there and explore like baby toddlers do.

Heh hee, I have a teenager. I think this is a pay back time to me for me being mean to my mom. Although, I would be a head shorter if I talked like that to my mom as she talks to me. : )
