I have, actually. It looks like a giant square, with a fatty top to it. Bacon is more common there, and it's GOOD!

Corned beef is said to originate in the midwest US and is really originally salted cow meat. since the weather was harsh and there were no fridges or deep freezes at the time, salt-cured meat also helped cowboys who were a long way from home on some horse-hunting activities survive in a way. corned beef as we know it today is certainly a whole lifetime different. Irish bacon should be a good thing. With blarney and ale to boot, it should be fun enjoying the old tales.

Why, yes, I have heard of that. Up till a few years ago Corned Beef was high eating in Ireland. Prátaí (potatoes)and Cabbage are pretty standard though.

Maybe he never ate it there. What they call bacon is nothing like what we call bacon - what they mean is a leaner cut of meat (pork). Beef is very expensive outside this country.
